The first time I saw Arid Hunter live was back in July 2010 when they were playing a show at Silent Barn with touring bands Nude Sunrise, Teaadora and Names Divine. They performed as a two piece that day (George Demoura & Diego Contreras) and had a sound that was dark, minimal and contemplative. They continue to grow and develop each time I have seen them live since and by adding a percussionist (Sandy Gordon) and another electronic musician (Forest Christianson) the collective, their sound is now full and textured with layers of noise guitar dissonance, swirling looped vocals accented by the vintage sound of Casio SK’s while being driven by intense primal percussion, all the while improvised, building a solid patiently escalating structure that is very thought provoking and open. Please do take a listen to this very intriguing band, they are very unique.
