Arid Hunter - NITETROTTER Session

Illustration Jorge Tapia / Sound Engineering Lawrence Romani / Text Lawrence Romani - Februay 25, 2011

The first time I saw Arid Hunter live was back in July 2010 when they were playing a show at Silent Barn with touring bands Nude Sunrise, Teaadora and Names Divine. They performed as a two piece that day (George Demoura & Diego Contreras) and had a sound that was dark, minimal and contemplative. They continue to grow and develop each time I have seen them live since and by adding a percussionist (Sandy Gordon) and another electronic musician (Forest Christianson) the collective, their sound is now full and textured with layers of noise guitar dissonance, swirling looped vocals accented by the vintage sound of Casio SK’s while being driven by intense primal percussion, all the while improvised, building a solid patiently escalating structure that is very thought provoking and open. Please do take a listen to this very intriguing band, they are very unique.

Opponents - NITETROTTER Session

Illustration Stefania Cristina Emanuela Oldani / Sound Engineering Lawrence Romani / Text Lawrence Romani - February 23, 2011

These guys make serious head music . It is a sound that evolves slowly around you until you are engulfed in it; engaging and thought provoking of dark worlds inside the mind and cold atmospheres outer body. Opponents have a sound that you can get lost in and get introspective. They are a 3 piece from Brooklyn consisting of Joshua Slusher, Aaron Feinstein and Joshua Greco. They just released a split on Baked Tapes with Grasshopper called Click Here To Buy Drugs and Together We Will End The Future on Prison Tatt records. They also have older releases out on Opposite Records and Obsolete Units. Check them out for yourself when they come around on tour later this year.

Vacation Dad - Encore NITETROTTER Session

Illustration Stefania Cristina Emanuela Oldani / Sound Engineering Nathan Gregory / Text Mr. Nitetrotter - February 21, 2011

Vacation Dad has stopped by Schwag City three times now. He usually drops by on his way out from Wisconsin. This guy is a road warrior who is always up to something. He was here this time for a show with a three way live solo collaboration called Incredible Pyramid.

Keep an eye out for Vacation Dad as he won't be slowing down anytime soon. He was grateful enough to record a new song for us. We dig.

El Minotaur - NITCO Tour Demo - Free Download

Text Mr. Nitetrotter - February 1, 2011

This is a nice little midwestern jewel of crushing damaged hardcore. This band was short lived like much of the music on this site but they really pummeled a live audience and this demo is a testament to that.

Another classic forgotten release from a highly underrated Quad Cities band. You can now find Padraig of this band playing with Nude Sunrise.

This is Mississippi River music at its finest. CHEERS

Text Mr. Nitetrotter - February 1, 2011

This short lived band from Kansas was sort of esoteric in their angular post hardcore sound that was reminiscent of Gravity bands in the 90s. This demo came out of NITCO and was heavily circulated. Bass player Phil Ross is still active with his 5nakefork label.

Enjoy this trotters! SEE YOU IN HELL

This is our favorite 12 year old punk band. They blew us away 4 years ago and were still loving it.

Hope you enjoy this pre teen angst as much as us. Oi! Oi! Oi!
