Here's a brand new video from our friend Evan's solo project Into it. Over it. If you are lucky, you can catch touring the shit out of Europe with Chicago's Grown Ups. But, you will probably be able to catch him on Day 2 of NITETROTTER Fest in July. Oh yeah, and his NITETROTTER Session is dropping soon too.

Boar - NITETROTTER Session

Illustration Jorge Tapia / Sound Engineering Randy Carter / Text Mr. Nitetrotter - April 23, 2010

Boar is Alex Nowacki, the solo noise madman from Dubuque Iowa and part of the Dubuque Strange Music Society. He recently toured the south with Sobou Shu and Swim Ignorant Fire. Boar has multiple releases available and makes his way around the midwest or catch him in Dubuque. We love his Iowan weird wave neo psychedelia!

Enjoy this recording from Iowa correspondent Randy Carter. Thank you and goodnite!

Dada Trash Collage-NITETROTTER Session Alive

Illustration Jorge Tapia/ Sound Engineering Ian Harris / Text Suburban Legend / Interview Merry C.

This session may be deceiving to some. Dada Trash Collage, is actually a collaborative effort of trippy beats and vocals from Minneapolis mainstays William & Richard. For our live session, we only had the privilege of recording William while he worked his electronic magic. His set had me reminiscing of a an awesome night spent with friends, a bag of shrooms, and Crash Bandicoot playing a little too loud in the background. If you enjoyed what you checked out here, feel free to download this live jam session, and please make sure to pre-order their new album "Neighbors" (lame ass name drop) Produced by the radical Scott Colburn (Arcade Fire/Animal Collective) You hopefully can catch this dynamic duo performing at Day 2 of NITETROTTER Fest on July 10th. But, you can definitely see them live at their CD release party on May 8th. Check out their book of faces for more info. Thanks for listening, and Good Nite!

Interview with William from Dada Trash Collage

Nitetrotter: What are your biggest influences from when you were growing up until now?
William: When I was little, I was really into old stuff like The Beatles. Then, I got really into Radiohead and Mars Volta. Now, Animal Collective. A lot of people notice that they’re an influence. Then, I have to mention Prussia. They’re from Michigan. I grew up in Clarkston, so I have ties to Michigan. Those guys are awesome. I love them.

N: I know he’s not here right now, but how did you and Richard (other band member) meet?
W: We had a band together called…Nevermind… The name doesn’t matter. It was really different than what we do now. I played the guitar. So, we moved out to Minneapolis together and started doing this. We’ve known each other for like 8 years.

N: What’s your favorite venue to play? You don’t have to say Mixtapes!
W: Well, it could be Mixtapes! I haven’t done the show yet, so I don’t know. It’s probably the Kitty Cat Klub in Minneapolis. It looks like they spent $2 million making it, so it’s really cool. They have a bunch of cool, old Oriental furniture. We’ve played there quite a bit.

N: So how did you hook up with Nitetrotter?
W: We played with Eyes once in Minneapolis. We loved them, thought they were awesome. So, J.T. [Tapia] told us that he had a place where they had shows and to hit him up when we were out on the road. Then, we heard about all the Nitetrotter stuff.

N: What’s your songwriting process? How do you and Richard work together?
W: Usually I write the songs. I start out with basic ideas for the vocals and each part. Then, I take it to him. Based on what he’s hearing with the beat and everything, we make some changes.

N: Tell us about your band name. How did you come up with it?
W: Back when I was in school, I took an art history class. We were doing this research paper and we had to pick a topic, something that had recently affected art. The teacher suggested Dada. I read about it, and the first art they did was collages made out of trash from the streets of Europe. So, they’d go out at night and just gather the stuff and make them. That kind of struck me and it just kind of describes what we’re doing with our music. We’re always putting together different stuff. We make something out of what people don’t want and throw away.

N: What are you listening to right now that people should be listening to but aren’t?
W: Well, Prussia like I said before. Neon Indian, I like them a lot. They’re rising in popularity right now. We’re touring in June with Zola Jesus. They’re really good. They’re getting some national press like Pitchfork. I think Minneapolis in general has some really great music and gets ignored. It’s all pretty good stuff up there.

N: Okay, and what are people listening to right now that they shouldn’t be?
W: Oh, man. I don’t know. I’m trying to think of something that people are crazy about that I don’t like. I’ll get back to you. [Answered over an hour later. ] I thought about it. Broken Social Scene. I just don’t get it. I don’t get how people like it.

N: If you could tour or work with any band, what band would it be?
W: It would probably have to be Animal Collective.

N: When you aren’t working on your music and touring, what do you like to do?
W: It’s not so often that I get free time. When I do, though, my fiancé likes crafts. She actually makes dresses and sells them online and stuff. She gets me into that. The cover for our last CD was actually handmade out of Popsicle sticks. So, now I’m working on our new one. It’s like a hardcover book. So, it’s still kind of related to the band, but that’s what I usually do.

N: Is there anything you want to share with the NITETROTTER public?
W: I just did a remix for Dearling Physique. That should be coming out in April. Oh, and we have a CD coming out in May that I should probably mention. It’s called Neighbors.

Nude Sunrise - NITETROTTER Session

Illustration Jorge Tapia / Sound Engineering Nathan Gregory / Text Mr. Nitetrotter - April 21, 2010

Nude Sunrise is the house band of Schwag City. Over the last few years they have separately relocated here to Chicago. The band first started with Padraig Steadman and Luke Wolever as a duo. Recently Nathan Gregory joined on Guitar. All three have solo acts as Motorcycle, Purple Chong and Hemp Anklet who have all done Nitetrotter Sessions.

Nude Sunrise will be venturing off on their first US tour heading down to the dirty south and up to the old east coast. All dates with the amazing Teaadora from Central Illinois and Names Divine. They will be starting this tour by playing the first day of Nitetrotter Fest.

Enjoy this hot session from Nude Sunrise and as always, goodnite!

The Naturals coming in to Schwag City to record just felt so natural. They have a good attitude and try to keep things positive.

The Naturals have upcoming Chicago shows May 8th at the Penny Road Pub and May 18th at the Darkroom. Smoke a blunt and go. Cheers and goodnite!

Names Divine - NITETROTTER Session

Names Divine is originally from Virginia and she has lived in Chicago for a while now. I recently had the oppurtunity to tag along with her and her dog on the road. She played at a No Age after party in Bloomington and a Metal Hardcore show at Mixtapes. At the show in East Moline a few teeny bopper girls walked out saying "Thats like an acid trip!" which of course is always a compliment.

She will be touring the south to east this summer with Nude Sunrise and Teadora. We look forward to her future endeavors. Well enjoy these free tracks and goodnite!

He arrived from Jamestown, New York with the great songs of past relationships failed, made by looping his viola, banjo, and cello. AIDS Wolf - Live NITETROTTER Session

Illustration Jorge Tapia / Sound Engineering Jorge Tapia / Text Mr. Nitetrotter - April 9, 2010

A few winters ago Montreal's AIDS Wolf came and played our shoebox of a record store. Right after leaving Mixtapes the lead singer Chloe broke her leg in Chicago forcing them to play instrumental.

This was a head heavy show with the audience having a strong kinetic reaction to the dissonant punk vibes of AW. Lack of tonal center,  hypnotic repetitive rhythyms, and eruptive homoerotic sexual energy made this an unforgettable show in East Moline.

Eagle Scout-NITETROTTER Session

Illustration Jorge Tapia / Sound Engineering Ian Harris / Text Suburban Legend / Interview Merry C. - April 8, 2010

Here is Eagle Scout's NITETROTTER Session and subsequent interview. Their catchy Post-Punk sound may or may not have arrived via a time machine from Kansas in the late 90's. They also are among the first wave of bands to tell the Trotter who shall remain nameless to suck one, after being blown off, only to have them come back and contact them later. Thanks for choosing to ride out with the devil duders! You can catch them Live touring the US this summer, and also at NITETROTTER Fest on July 10th, in East Moline,IL. You also should go buy their new Full Length Album "New Hands" Thanks for listening, and Good NITE.

Eagle Scout Interview!
BRANDON - Vocals/Bass
BEN - Guitar/Vocals
KYLE - Drums/Shouts
JEREMIAH - Synthesizer/Tambourine
ROBERT "Voltron"- Guitar/Shouts

What kind of music did you guys listen to growing up?
Robert: The first concert I ever went to was an O.C. Supertones concert. The first CD I ever bought was Thursday’s “Full Collapse.”
Ben: I think my first concert was Journey.
Kyle: The first CD I ever bought was the “D2: Mighty Ducks” soundtrack.
Brandon : The first CD I ever bought was “At the Drive-In.” I was influenced a lot by punk rock and ‘80’s music when I was little.
Jeremiah: I think the first CD I bought was Jock Jams.
Be: I always listened to my brother’s MXPX and Relient K CDs. Then I liked Pedro the Lion. I think the first CD I bought was Limp Bizkit
J: My musical taste was really influenced by Jock Jams.

How did you guys get together?
K: We all go to the same college. This was before Robert was in the band. I was eating with our friends “the Chrises.” We went to get our food and when we went back, we noticed that somebody took our table. It was a bunch of jock dudes, jock jams. So, Kyle and Brandon were sitting near by and we started to sit with them.
Br: So, it was outcasts getting together. We always saw Jeremiah around campus.
Be: He asked us if he played an instrument, could be in the band. We agreed, and here we are.

How did you guys hook up with NITETROTTER?
K: Well, pretty much when we routed the tour, we were looking for something in the QC. We actually played at Mixtapes! about two years ago, so we sent them a message. We got hooked up with Nitetrotter because they hooked up with us!
Be: It’s like when you are with a girl in your group of friends and you just hook up with her because she’s around.
Br: That never happens.
Be: I saw it in a movie once.

What’s your favorite venue to play?
All: The Loft in Macomb.
K: There are two other ones. The Bean in East Peoria, and I love the warehouse in East Ridge, Tennessee. And that house in Champaign
Br: Every place we play is like our favorite.
K: Mixtapes!
All: Yeah, Mixtapes!

When you guys aren’t touring, what do you do in your free time?
Be: Robert likes to make fun games like, “Say what you don’t like about someone,” all at the same time. Brandon likes to play Pokemon.
Br: We play Wiffleball
J: I like to spend hours on Chatroulette.
R: I like to read.
Br: We’re all still in school, so that takes up a lot of our time.
J: I like to play ultimate on the quad with the Kappa Delta boys.

What songs would you suggest to fans just starting to get into your music?
Br: I like “Weaker Science.” That’s my favorite song off our new album.

Anything you want to share with the NITETROTTER public?
K: Respect Iowa.
Be: watch Zach Galifianakis.
Br: I feel like we need to say something witty and profound.
R: In memoriam of those pizza cats from this summer.
Be: They were in a box when we were eating pizza… We could say, watch “Heavyweights.”

GG Tolltext - NITETROTTER Session

Illustration Jorge Tapia / Sound Engineering Nathan Gregory / Text Mr. Nitetrotter - April 8, 2010

GG Tolltext is one of the other great neo psychedelia artists to emerge out of the Moss Tapes crowd in Chicago. His smooth but still sexually primitive soundscapes are choice cuts.

Austin has been eating his teeth playing weird warehouse parties on the bad neighborhood circuit for quite a while now. He puts on a engaging live show that will melt your brain.

On a personal side note Mr. Nitetrotter would like to dedicate this Nitetrotter session to GG Tapia who passed away earlier this week. He will be missed.

CMI - NITETROTTER Session

CMI was kind enough to spare us some of his time to come in to Schwag City and record some songs for us. We just found out about him and thought he would be a nice addition to the site. He has a pleasant lo fi demeanor to him that is extraordinary.

Catch him possibly at many Moss Tapes events that happen sporadically around the city of Chicago.

Fielded - NITETROTTER Session

Illustration Jorge Tapia / Sound Engineering Nathan Gregory / Text Mr. Nitetrotter - April 6, 2010

Fielded is a member of the progressive Chicago band GA'AN who is highly appreciated by the Nitetrotter staff.  Fielded was kind enough to come in and record a session at Schwag City in Chicago. Her approach features many layered vocals and beautiful but odd harmonies.

This is music that is psychedelic in not a generic way. Something keeps telling me that this sounds like a female version of Phil Collins reigning musically in the depths of Hell.

Cricoris-NITETROTTER Session

Illustration Jorge Tapia / Sound Engineering Ian Harris / Text Suburban Legend - April 6, 2010

At first glance, if you ever have the pleasure of meeting the trio that comprises Cricoris , you would probably think they were in a Pink Floyd tribute band. However, this could not be further from the truth. Cricoris is the Quad Cities premier power violence band, and has been known to leave the crowds at their live shows covered in blood, spit, and sweat. After being neglected at other local venues, they found a home at Mixtapes! in East Moline,Il. We couldn't be any happier with the way the support THEIR scene. Without further ado, here is Cricoris. Good NITE.

Meester Magpie - Nitetrotter Session

Illustration Jorge Tapia / Sound Engineering Nathan Gregory / Text Mr. Nitetrotter - April 6, 2010

Meester Magpie is a weird guy. You may of seen him on the front page of the Moline Dispatch for "Weird East Moline". He is constantly raging at house parties across Chicago dropping fucked up music on  unsuspecting audiences. Once again proving that even sonically you cannot rape the willing.

If you ever see this man hustling around chicago on a bike with a baby carriage attached to the back you can almost bet that its full of music equipment, beer and possibly peyote. Don't pray for him as he has already put a musical hex on your kind. Meester Magpie is waging a weird war on the square population.

The Blushing Gun-NITETROTTER Session

While sitting in my office one awful winter evening, I received a phone call from a band who harbored the same feelings of ill will, against the same parties we at NITETROTTER rebel against. High on Monster Energy drinks, we let our feelings guide us into a budding friendship. The Blushing Gun are 4 guys lost in genre less jams, and a never ending journey to capture a unicorn to steal it's magical horn. You can catch them live in their new home base of The Quad-Cities frequently. Without further ado, here is The Blushing Gun's latest track "Slit Wrist" Good NITE.
