Ed Schrader's Music Beat are a lush duo from Baltimore, MD. We were lucky enough to meet them when they rolled through Chicago and played at the late Drone City with tour mates Dope Body, Wume and Nude Sunrise. Just when you think nothing could follow Dope Body,Ed's Music Beat just lit the room up. Crossing back in forth from beautiful vocal led songs to in your face punk ballads. The best part is it is all done with just a bass guitar and floor tom. I hope you find this live performance as fun to listen to as we do. When we came to Situations to record a marathon of sessions from some of Chicago's finest, I really had never heard of Animal City. I quickly was hit with a sound I truly enjoyed and now allover Chicago all I see is Animal City and they deserve it. What words could ever begin to start describing Frank Hurricane, the soul behind Hurricanes of Love. The most consistently jolly creature on the planet. We first met Frank in Pensacola, FL where he wowed us with his complex guitar style while also play playing a kick drum with his foot. This all happened while he sang songs of mountain journeys and life endeavors. We were very excited to welcome Frank here in Chicago where he played a bunch of shows around the city and spread his love and friendship to many. We tracked this poetic session at the late Drone City and is accompanied by his tour mates and close friends Many Mansions on percussion. As Frank Hurricane himself would say, "Smoke a pound blunt," and jolm on this groovy session.

Red button, green button, blue button, yellow. The press of these video game machine buttons and the slide of a finger across his handmade synth device blast the audience ears delightfully. This gravid groove ignites any listeners aural taste buds. His noiseful trances change to sublime vibes and at times dancey goodness. Milton Melvin Croissant plays rad music and played behind his transfixing visuals can trip out the most sober at state. MMCIII hails from Denver, Co and we met him one fine evening when he played Schwag City in Chicago where we were able to tape his whole performace.

Many Mansions is Chang Dhan-Ali, a psychic mind originally from Boston but now resides in Brooklyn where he has added good friend AnD on percussion. Many Mansions journeyed to Chicago along with Frank Hurricane (Hurricanes of Love) to play a small mini tour with friends Nude Sunrise around the midwest and Chicago. One psychedelic day we recorded this hot track of his that maybe featured on an upcoming release so keep your ear out for it. This epic track features all of Nude Sunrise, Hurricanes of Love and Randy Kile adding waves of color as his backing band.

We ran in to Mr. Monroe via Andy from Vacation Dad. We were lucky to host these guys while they toured as The Incredible Pyramid. Merlin came over and laid down this track before his show across the street with Nude Sunrise and Billy Crystal Meth at Chilis. Later that night Merlin and his boys cuddled up on the studio floor. We hope he drops by Chicago on that magic carpet again sometime soon.

Arid Hunter - NITETROTTER Session
Illustration Jorge Tapia / Sound Engineering Lawrence Romani / Text Lawrence Romani - Februay 25, 2011The first time I saw Arid Hunter live was back in July 2010 when they were playing a show at Silent Barn with touring bands Nude Sunrise, Teaadora and Names Divine. They performed as a two piece that day (George Demoura & Diego Contreras) and had a sound that was dark, minimal and contemplative. They continue to grow and develop each time I have seen them live since and by adding a percussionist (Sandy Gordon) and another electronic musician (Forest Christianson) the collective, their sound is now full and textured with layers of noise guitar dissonance, swirling looped vocals accented by the vintage sound of Casio SK’s while being driven by intense primal percussion, all the while improvised, building a solid patiently escalating structure that is very thought provoking and open. Please do take a listen to this very intriguing band, they are very unique.

It is a sound that evolves slowly around you until you are engulfed in it; engaging and thought provoking of dark worlds inside the mind and cold atmospheres outer body. Opponents have a sound that you can get lost in and get introspective. They are a 3 piece from Brooklyn consisting of Joshua Slusher, Aaron Feinstein and Joshua Greco. They just released a split on Baked Tapes with Grasshopper called Click Here To Buy Drugs and Together We Will End The Future on Prison Tatt records. They also have older releases out on Opposite Records and Obsolete Units. Check them out for yourself when they come around on tour later this year.

Trenton is one of the most in your face comedic personalities in the game! He is currently living somewhere in California inside a tent. Last summer Trenton was followed around for a Mtv True Life special on 'Sugar Babies'(younger men who date older women). Well Trenton digs older women right out of the grave. The filming centered around his relationship with a nice older woman and often resulted in real life comedic chaos like a comedy moshpit.
I first stumbled upon this legend at the Ball Hall in Chicago a few years ago where he was puking up bibles while sporting dyed blue hair. We didn't catch his name and for a long time just referred to him as "Blueberry Top". The years went by and we got to know him finding out that he is a great guy who will keep you laughing all night. For some reason every time Trenton stops by Schwag City he does something crazy in our bathroom.
Keep your eye out for this guy he gets around and leaves his mark. GOOD NITE

Text Mr. Nitetrotter - January 24, 2011This collection of recordings comes to us via the East Moline based power trio Mija. These recordings were made as demos for Ikey Owens of Mars Volta/Free Moral Agents who just recorded Mija in San Francisco. The band drove straight out there to record, getting falsely charged with car theft and being thrown on the ground by the SFPD. They enjoyed their California stay and had to strap on chains to climb the mountains on the way back. We can't wait to hear that recording especially after these demos making it to NITETROTTER. Take note of the cover art which is a collaboration between John Olson of Wolf Eyes and Jorge Tapia.

You can really tell most of these guys grew up playing together as this is so tightly loose. This recording is so abrasively jazzy too with its syncopated rhythms and expansive harmonies. The lyrics are definitely something to write home about, with sick babble like "Yesterday I won the lottery so I found the fanciest whore that I could find and made her suck me off in the most expensive hotel in this god forsaken city" Whoah.
This one is a crucial rager. Keep on trottin in the free world.

Jorge Anthony Tapia - "Mi Infierno" - Free Download

This bad boy of bedroom pop comes straight from our main horse's mouth... the famous Jorge Tapia. After being a main songwriter for quite a few bands he decided to release this album and was nice enough to let Nitetrotter give it away.
Jorge Tapia is a multi instrumentalist, composer and artist who has been consistently putting out art and music since his early teens in the late 90s. His most noteworthy bands include his current progressively latin influenced outfit Mija, outsider pop noise act Eyes, a defunct pop band named Humans, his legendary band that sounded like a straight edge youth crew band meets Wire named Only Ten Between Us( a play on the quad cities former area code system), and his teenage pop punk bands Paper Children and The Strict who were local teenage support for the most random bands in the 90s everyone from Modest Mouse to Charles Bronson. He also writes songs and produces his daughter Chica X's music.
This release is his first solo record under his real name. We love how this came out and hope to hear more. For more information on Jorge visit his blog.
