Burger Kingdom - Live NITETROTTER Session

Illustration Jorge Tapia / Sound Engineering Ian Harris / Text Mr. Nitetrotter - September 10, 2010

Burger Kingdom has one of the best names ever. They are also a very heavy band. They played a few shows in Illinois earlier this year and were quite the royal treat. BK's top 100 music obsessions lost in popper fried nites with deep leanings in to the fuzzed out pop culture pool produce a unique sound.

Erik the lead singer and I had this crazy conversation at Mortville. We talked about how pop music is at its weirdest in our time. With the autotune craze setting the cultural landscape for the upcoming apocalypse and pop fascists like Lady Gaga pulling the trigger. Great nite. My brain still hurts.

After playing a couple Chicago shows in a basement and a cardboard city they stopped by Mixtapes to record this live session.

Please come back Burger Kingdom we miss you. GOOD NITE!

PAS - NITETROTTER Session

Illustration Jorge Tapia / Sound Engineering Lawrence Romani / Text Lawrence Romani - Sept 8, 2010

I was really excited to have PAS record at Apparition Sound. They are a 4 piece most of the time but they have a long list of collaborators working with them in a live set so that number can swell to 10 just as it did recently when Vultures Quartet joined them for Avante Garde Festival in Germany opening for Faust and Lydia Lunch. The core members are Robert Pepper, Amber Brien, Jon Worthly and Mike Durek. The PAS sound is very organic and ethereal; a composed dissonance that creates an atmosphere around the listener. By fusing eclectic instrumentation with electronics they have created a sound that’s as original as it is timeless and haunting. Give them a listen. Enjoy !

Fork Knife Spoon - All Empires Fall

Text Mr Nitetrotter - September 4, 2010

We are starting a new "Bambi can eat her fucking heart out" series here at NITETROTTER. We will be giving away our favorite out of print Quad Cities area releases for free. Many of these bands are affiliated with members of the Nitetrotter Party. Many people kept asking us to post the Fork Knife Spoon recordings that are very hard to find. So here we go.

This was the final release for Fork Knife Spoon. It was recorded in the same session as the HeWhoCorrupts split at Semaphore in Chicago Illinois. The lineup was Jake Sheley guitar, John Gamino guitar, Jamie Warren bass, Nathan Girard drums, and Billy Harris vocals. Members of this band have gone on to form Mondo Drag, Lord Green and Eyes. This was not a well received band and were often cited as being popular by people trying to glorify the "good old days" but they weren't. This was actually a weird breed of crossover hardcore that combined power violence like KungFu Rick and downtuned crust of bands like Tragedy with the guitar harmonies of Iron Maiden.

This release was released on the defunct labels The Dupage Collective and First Blood Family to somewhere between 1000 and 1500 copies on Compact Disc. It never came out on vinyl and the master tape sits on a shelf in Billy's parents house(Jake, Nate and Jamie at one time wanted to tape over it to save money with a later short lived project). Hopefully if he gets some money he will put it out on vinyl(tell Bambi to eat her heart out).

Fork Knife Spoon's ideology is a lot of the reason NITETROTTER exists today!

Rrrainbow Family - NITETROTTER Session

Illustration Jorge Tapia / Sound Engineering Nathan Gregory / Text Mr. Nitetrotter - September 4, 2010

You may have heard crazy rumors about this band and they may or may not be true.

The Rrainbow Family is like a weird disease plaguing the city of Chicago that will not go away and keeps getting stronger by the second. This band has a revolving door of a lineup that always changes and can be a small combo all the way to a 10+ piece ensemble. The main core of the family sets the tone and direction while the younger members react. The result is a beautiful mess of psychedelic vibrations pulsating through the air. I have seen some of the weirdest shit go down during their sets. They bring out the best and worst of the audience.

We are very excited to present to you our latest breakout artists the Rrrainbow Family right here on NITETROTTER. GOOD NITE

The Milltown Wranglers - Live NITETROTTER Session

Illustration Jorge Tapia / Sound Engineering Ian Harris / Text Mr. Nitetrotter - September 3, 2010

Earlier this year we hosted an eclectic show featuring the Quad Cities' premier bluegrass band The Milltown Wranglers. These fingerpicking masters of hillbilly counterpoint laid down some great songs for the crowd. They were able to keep non bluegrass fans entertained and engaged. With the closing of the venue side of Mixtapes this session sounds like the soundtrack to your favorite ghost town party.

We are very happy to bring you this latest session of river music from the banks of the mighty Mississippi. GOOD NITE!

QUILT - NITETROTTER Session

Illustration Jorge Tapia / Sound Engineering Nathan Gregory / Text Mr. Nitetrotter - September 2, 2010

QUILT met some of the NITETRTROTTERS while Nude Sunrise was on tour this summer. That link up has brought us one of our most refreshing sessions to date. This is space rock for the new aeon. Not the same old rehashed bullshit but actually something new and exciting with a high level of tonal sophistication. Their show last month in Chicago was well received and we look forward to QUILT playing NITETROTTER Fest in 2011.

Drop a quaalude and grab some salt peanuts to get ready for this grade A session! Keep trottin comrades and GOOD NITE!

T'bone - NITETROTTER Session

Illustration Jorge Tapia / Sound Engineering Nathan Gregory / Text Mr. Nitetrotter - August 31, 2010

T'bone is one of those weird sensations that only happens once in a lifetime. They play serious riffage at high speeds and punk frequencies. We came accross this band through the drummer Ed Bornstein a total Iowan madman transplant. He is always having a good time and brings the heat on the kit. He even gave me a piece of Little Caesars pizza while we were both living it up in Wichita at ICT Fest.

We were bummed when they had to cancel NITETROTTER Fest but look forward to having them play in 2011! Catch these guys all around the city of Chicago. GOOD NITE

Dorian's Decay-NITETROTTER Session

Illustration Jorge Tapia / Sound Enginnering Ian Harris / Text Suburban Legend - August 30, 2010

Dorian's Decay is an unsigned Hardcore/Screamo band from the burbs of Chicago. They were among the first bands to be recommended to us by our fans for a Nitetrotter Presents: show. After catching their live performance, it was easy to see why. Their high energy stage presence quickly had the crowd drenched in sweat, and the kids wanting more. They are constantly touring through the Midwest with other up and coming bands, and our not only of my favorite bands to see live, but also a great group of guys to shoot the shit with. Here is Dorian's Decay, Good Nite!

Dreamlogicc is a electronic solo act from Chicago. This session was a off the cuff pleasant surprise from a new friend. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do. GOOD NITE!
